In her book “Thai elephants off the street”, Antoinette describes her journey to the Elephant Nature Park in the company of two elephants that were bought from the street. It was an adventurous trip through a world of leering elephant dealers, destitute villagers, monks giving their blessings and angry animal activists, with Elephant Haven on the horizon.
“Thai elephants off the street” was written by Antoinette van de Water and journalist Liesbeth Sluiter. It is an exceptional piece of literature on environmental damage in a country of Buddhist tradition which has always embraced all forms of life.
